AirAsia Embarks On Initiative To Promote Sustainability

AirAsia has embarked on a campaign to promote environmental sustainability awareness, themed #Green24 which will begin with a waterfall clean up activity at the Kanching Rainforest Waterfall in Rawang today with 150 participants across the AirAsia group and the Tune Group of companies.

The waterfall clean up activity is a collaboration with SARAP Campus, who is part of the ‘Persatuan Belia Perubahan Iklim Malaysia’, also known as Powershift Malaysia, a non-governmental organization to raise public awareness about the current global climate environment.

The environmental sustainability awareness campaign will see the whole AirAsia Group, along with the Tune Group of companies and the Asian Aviation Centre for Excellence team up to carry out both internal and external initiatives throughout the #Green24 campaign to promote awareness towards the issue of climate change.

Aireen Omar, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad said,

“Climate change is a key global issue which cannot afford to be ignored anymore. We want to do our part, but not just as a campaign but also a lifestyle and culture within the company. We have been actively implementing energy and fuel saving initiatives in our operations for the past few years, and we are starting this #Green24 campaign to generate more awareness towards creating a sustainable environment for our future.”

“Internally, AirAsia has started on our environmental sustainability awareness campaign recently with initiatives aimed to save energy, reduce wastage and recycling. Now that we have successfully implemented the internal initiatives, we would like to bring this #Green24 campaign to the external front and encourage the public to join us as well,” added Aireen Omar.

The rubbish and waste collected during the waterfall clean up will be segregated and weighed accordingly for record and benchmark purposes against future clean-up activities.

AirAsia has been actively sourcing for ways to inject the sustainability factor into its operations, including engineering, flight operations and fuel saving initiatives.

The #Green24 campaign will end with a group-wide initiative, expected to take place in January 2016 which will also include participation from the Tune Group of companies and the Asian Aviation Centre of Excellence. A full 24-hour program will be created with activities aimed at conserving energy, raising awareness on climate change and working towards developing a sustainability-aware culture within AirAsia and the industry.
