Outstanding women honoured at Malaysia’s 1st ever women’s awards show

Malaysia’s sweetheart Datuk Siti Nurhaliza won the hearts of Malaysians once again to take home the “Bella On-stage Award” at the country’s 1st ever women’s awards show – Bella Awards. With the support of her strong fan base, Siti beats 9 other strong contenders including Dato’ Sheila Majid, Ning Baizura, Anita Sarawak, and Jaclyn Victor under this category that celebrates women who have made tremendous achievement on stage in the field of music and performing arts.

Meanwhile, philanthropist, Dato’ Ruby Khong was awarded with the most awards that night including “Bella Heart Award” and “The Bella Award”, which is deemed the highest award for the night . Dato’ Ruby who is the President of Kechara SoupKitchen (KSK) was amongst the women celebrated and honoured at ntv7’s Bella Awards in-conjunction with International Women’s Day.

Radio announcer, Fara Fauzana who has won several other awards under the radio category comes out as a strong favourite once again by clinching the coveted “Bella Radio Award”.

Having to contest with some of Malaysia’s tip top actresses including Maya Karin, Lisa Surihani, and Nur Fazura, Debbie Goh who saw slim chances of winning the “Bella On-screen Award” came out as a surprise winner on that night. The actress was also crowned the “Most Popular Actress” recently at Malaysia’s most prestigious Chinese TV awards show – Golden Awards last September.

Bella Awards also saw other familiar names including Low Ngai Yuen and Gillian Hung who each took home the “Bella Creative Award” and “Bella Style Award” respectively. Malaysians will definitely remember Ngai Yuen through her hosting stint in the hit reality programme, “3R” that gives useful insights to women. From hosting, producing, directing, as well as creating some of the highest rating TV programs in the country and regional countries to being the youngest executive director in a renowned international company, Ngai Yuen is said to be a workaholic who works around the clock and is now heading Kakiseni, a performing arts platform.

Gillian Hung or more affectionately known as “Mama G” was honoured with “Bella Style Award” that night. Gillian is not only extremely active in the country’s fashion industry but has also contributed a lot by inspiring young talents in Malaysia, where she educates up and coming designers for fashion business and also provides a platform for them to be seen and heard.

Bella Awards also recognises women in business, sports as well as health & beauty. Datuk Ir. Rosaline Ganendra was awarded with “Bella Business Award” for her outstanding contributions to women through the business field including raising the image of women in the business arena, making women aware and strives to their full professional potential, amongst others.

Meanwhile, Dr. Premitha Damodaran who believes in empowering women and sharing her personal professional knowledge on women’s health through talks, presentations, forums, and media platforms, was recognised for her works by being awarded with the “Bella Beautiful Award” that celebrates women who have made a stride in the health and wellness scene. Dr. Premitha also holds many positions including Executive Board Member of the Malaysian Osteoporosis Society and Chairperson of the Breast Feeding Hospital Initiative at Pantai Hospital, KL.

Under the sports category, Malaysian diver and 2nd runner-up of the Women’s synchronized 3 metre springboard at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Cheong Jun Hoong was awarded with “Bella Sports Award”.

Bella Awards yang julung kali diperkenalkan oleh ntv7 ternyata tidak menghampakan apabila anugerah yang memberi pengiktirafan dan penghormatan kepada wanita bukan sahaja berjaya mengangkat martabat wanita malah merupakan acara penuh glamor.

Rata-rata tetamu istimewa yang menghadiri majlis tersebut tampil menawan dengan busana pilihan bertemakan “She Sparkles” mewarnai acara karpet merah. Antara yang menarik perhatian adalah Nasha Aziz, Deborah Henry, Aishah Sinclair, Fazura, Lina Teoh, Alex Yoong, Amber Chia, Soo Wincci dan ramai lagi.

Acara kemuncak yang bersiaran tepat jam 9 Malam pada 2 Mac itu menyaksikan Dato’ Ruby Khong merangkul anugerah tertinggi Bella Awards di atas sumbangan dan minatnya yang mendalam dalam berbakti kepada masyarakat. Usahawan wanita berjaya itu sememangnya wajar diangkat dalam memberi inspirasi kepada ramai lagi kaum hawa di luar sana untuk terus berjaya.

“Saya berharap anugerah ini akan mendorong wanita-wanita di luar sana untuk lebih berani dan keluar dari zon selesa mereka untuk membuat perubahan dan mengejar impian sebenar mereka” kata Dato’ Ruby Khong.

Tidak ketinggalan adalah anugerah “Bella On-stage Award” yang membuktikan Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza tetap menjadi pilihan ramai berdasarkan undian sms dan dalam talian. Walaupun tidak hadir pada malam itu, Siti tetap menghantar wakil menghadiri acara penuh makna itu. Beliau juga sempat menghantar pesanan sms penghargaannya kepada pihak ntv7 yang ditujukan kepada para peminat yang tidak jemu-jemu menyokong perjalanan kerjayanya selama ini. Malah anugerah itu merupakan bukti kesetiaan peminat-peminat beliau selain memberi ucapan syabas kepada produksi Bella.

Manakala Fara Fauzana mengungguli anugerah “Bella Radio Award” menewaskan calon-calon lain seperti Serena C, Dilly, Sara Jane-lo dan Yoon Ng. Fara yang terkejut dengan kemenangannya malam itu berucap pendek dan berterima kasih kepada para pengundi dan dan merupakan satu lagi lembaran baru dalam anugerah urban perprofil tinggi ini.

Malah Debbie Goh yang dilihat memiliki peluang tipis berjaya merangkul anugerah “Bella On-screen Award” mengalahkan calon kegemaran lain seperti Maya Karin, Lisa Surihani dan Nur Fazura. Ternyata Debbie Goh yang juga Pelakon Wanita Popular Golden Awards tetap mempunyai bisanya tersendiri.

Bella Awards juga melihat nama-nama yang bukan lagi asing memenangi kategori-kategori lain seperti Low Ngai Yuen (Bella Creative Award) yang amat terkenal dengan melalui pengacaraannya dalam 3R dan Gillian Hung (Bella Style Award) yang sudah lama dalam industri fesyen.

Sementara itu, “Bella Business Award” diungguli Datuk Ir. Rosaline Ganendra di atas pencapaiannya dalam dunia perniagaan, Dr. Premitha Damodaran pula memenangi “Bella Beautiful Award”.

Turut mememenagi anugerah pada malam itu adalah atlet negara Cheong Jun Hoong untuk “Bella Sports Award” dan anugerah pengiktirafan khas golongan lelaki, Datuk Jimmy Choo menerusi anugerah “Bella Mars Award”.

Selain Rossa dan Joe Flizzow, penyanyi tampan Marcell Siahaan dan kumpulan Maliq & D’ Essentials yang juga diterbangkan dari Indonesia bagi meraikan wanita di anugerah tersebut. Marcell membuat persembahan ketika segmen “Fashion Rocks” yang menampilkan 12 koleksi pereka terkenal, Datuk Radzuan Radziwill yang direka khas untuk acara Bella Awards.

Bella Awards 2013 menampilkan bintang sensasi antarabangsa dalam industri hiburan Cina, Gary Chaw yang merupakan penyanyi Malaysia yang telah menempah nama di Taiwan. Selain mereka, turut berkongsi pentas adalah penyanyi Malaysia termasuklah puteri pop Mizz Nina dan Darren Ashley serta kumpulan wanita yang sedang meningkat naik, The Impatient Sisters.

Tirai malam itu disempurnakan dengan persembahan mantap artis antrabangsa yang ditunggu-tunggu, Ronan Keating yang menyampaikan hits “When You Say Nothing At All” dan lagu terbarunya, Fires.

Bella Awards 2013 dianjurkan oleh ntv7 bersempena Hari Wanita Sedunia. Ia juga merupakan rancangan anugerah wanita pertama seumpamanya yang diadakan untuk merai, mengiktiraf dan memberi penghormatan kepada golongan wanita di negara ini.

Bella Awards bersiaran secara langsung pada 2 Mac 2013 bermula jam 9.00 malam manakala acara karpet merah Red “Sparkle” Carpet pula disiarkan tepat jam 8.30 malam di ntv7 dan TV9. Rancangan anugerah itu juga boleh ditonton secara “live streaming” di www.ntv7.com.my/bellaawards.

The ceremony also recognises the men for their contributions, where the one and only Datuk Jimmy Choo was awarded with the “Bella Mars Award” recognition.

An idea that came from ntv7’s award-winning women’s talkshow, Bella, the awards show boasts a fabulous theme – “She Sparkles” – which carries a strong message that women are like precious gems that sparkle from the inside out with their significant and outstanding contributions made to the society.

“It is an honour for ntv7 to organise the country’s 1st ever women’s awards show with hopes to further inspire and bring women to the forefront in-conjunction with International Women’s Day,” said Airin Zainul, Group General Manager of ntv7 & 8TV.

“With the birth of this awards show, ntv7 hits a key milestone that signifies the growth of the channel since its humble beginnings in 1998. We hope to be able to continue to be Malaysia’s preferred channel,” Airin added.

The awards show made its grand debut on 2nd March (Saturday) with lots of surprises. The show was aired LIVE from The Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from 8.30pm – 10.30pm.

With a total of five international superstars including Ronan Keating, Gary Chaw, Rossa, Marcell Siahaan, and Maliq & D’ Essentials, the awards ceremony was graced by some of the country’s renowned celebrities and personalities.

Local artistes Mizz Nina, Joe Flizzow, Darren Ashley, and The Impatient Sisters also heated up the centre stage of Bella Awards with stunning performances on that special night.

This 1st ever women’s awards show in Malaysia celebrated 5 women under these categories – Bella Style Award, Bella Creative Award, Bella Business Award, Bella Heart Award, and Bella Beautiful Award.

Four other categories including Bella On-stage Award, Bella On-screen Award, Bella Sports Award, and Bella Radio Award were based on public voting via sms and online through the official website of Bella Awards at www.ntv7.com.my/bellaawards.

The highest award that night was The Bella Award with one individual (not limited to the nominees in the mentioned categories) was honoured.

“Fashion”, a subject close to the hearts of women, was featured as a special segment in Bella Awards 2013 called “Fashion Rocks” featuring fashion superstar Datuk Radzuan Radziwill and rising star Fizi Woo. Both fashion designers paraded 12 of their collections at the Bella Awards 2013 runway.

Hosting the awards show that night was Malaysian heartthrob Hans Isaac together with three beautiful ladies from ntv7’s award-winning women’s talkshow, Bella – Daphne Iking, Elaine Daly, and Vanessa Chong.
