Asia’s of Queen Mando Pop, A Mei, entertained 15,000 screaming fans today with her energetic performance at the Bukit Jalil National Outdoor Stadium, Kuala Lumpur. The concert, sponsored by Maxis Communications Berhad via its prepaid brand Hotlink, is the second last stop in her STAR Tour through 13 different cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taipei. Due to popular demand, the tour will end with a repeat show in Taipei.
A Mei performed about thirty of her hits during the three hour concert, which included popular songs such as “Bad Boy”, “Ting Hai (Listen to the Sea)”, “Yuan Lai Ni Shen Mo Dou Bu Yao (You Don’t Want Anything)”, “Hand in Hand” and “Sister”.
At the event, 20 lucky Maxis customers won premium concert tickets to enjoy a live performance by the international diva. All they did was to download A-Mei caller ringtones and answer SMS trivia questions correctly.
As part of the A Mei promotion, Maxis is offering the A Mei caller ringtone package at only RM5 per month. It contains three A Mei songs; and two out of three songs are refreshed on a monthly basis to ensure that fans are able to entertain their callers with a variety of the diva’s songs. A Mei, also known as Zhang Hui Mei, is known for her powerful vocals, stage charisma and popular hits. She made her music debut in 1996 with her first album Sisters. It immediately topped the Taiwan IFPI chart for a record nine consecutive weeks and made her an instant hit on the music scene. She has frequently been called a diva of the Mandarin pop music scene, as well as the “Pride of Taiwan”. She has won numerous music awards and is one of the biggest music sensations in the Mandarin-speaking world. She last performed in Malaysia in 1999 to a record turnout of 35,000 fans.
Maxis previously presented other top Chinese entertainers such as David Tao, Eason Chan, Leo Ku, Miriam Yeung, S.H.E, Jay Chou and Z Chen. Maxis also brought in top music acts such as Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani, Korean pop sensation Rain, Sean Kingston, Pussycat Dolls, Fort Minor, and the Black Eyed Peas.
