Canon Unveils New Printers with New Connectivity Features That Make Printing from Mobile Devices Easier Than Ever
Canon’s latest PIXMA all-in-one printers inject style and elegance to modern homes and home offices with breath-taking new colours and connectivity features. The new Canon PIXMA TS9170 showcases a first-ever two-tone, champagne gold and black design, while the PIXMA TS8170 series adds more than a touch of style with wraparound black, red, white options.
With mobile devices that support Bluetooth 4.0 technology, users can stay always-connected to their printers, receiving useful alerts such as low-ink notifications even before printing begins. Beyond the obvious good looks, the new Message in Print appi reinvents the way we remember favourite moments of friends and family, by embedding hidden messages inside photos for unexpected surprises.

Jeffrey Kung, Head of Consumer Imaging and Information Division of Canon Marketing Malaysia, explained that the four new printers Canon is introducing build upon the brand’s already popular PIXMA family of printers.

In addition to printing work documents, we recognise that printers continue to play an important role in capturing moments that matter. Producing high quality photo prints is still an integral part of the photography process. Kung added that the new PIXMA printers deliver enhanced connectivity with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) which makes it easier for customers to stay updated on the status and condition of their printer. “With the elegant colour variants available, they also double as a trendy and stylish piece to introduce into your home, especially the PIXMA TS9170,” he said.

PIXMA TS9170 Photo All-in-One: Compact and elegant, the flagship Wi-Fi enabled printer’s champagne gold lid and classy black chassis is designed for the always-connected, style-savvy consumer. Users can print and scan photos and documents directly from a mobile device[i], and enjoy a variety of Creative Filter options on the large 5” touch-screen display mounted on a tilt panel, when printing photos from a memory card.
PIXMA TS8170 Photo All-in-One: The modern home or office interior comes alive in the presence of this advanced all-in-one printer, available in stylish black, dynamic red and minimalist white. Alongside wireless connectivity, the printer also features an adjustable tilt panel that houses the 4.3” touch-screen LCD, making it perfect for consumers who want a versatile printer without compromising on speed and productivity.
PIXMA TS5170 Photo All-in-One: This space-saving all-rounder delivers style and functionality at an affordable price. A 2.5” LCD on an adjustable tilt panel makes it easy to operate and view menu options, while automatic duplex engine and 2-way paper feeding ensures ease-of operation, whether it is the printing of high quality photos, school projects, or just scanning documents.
PIXMA TR8570 Office All-In-One: Designed with convenience in mind, consumers can now enjoy one-touch access to frequently used settings on the 4.3” touch-screen LCD panel. The ability to print wirelessly from a smartphone or tablet also saves users time so they can take their documents from the printout tray, and head out quickly for that urgent meeting.

New Ink System with Photo Blue
Canon’s new ink system delivers breath-taking colour reproduction with an expanded colour gamut. Glossy photo prints are good enough not merely for sharing, but for adding life and colour walls and work spaces. Thanks to the new Photo Blue ink in the 6-ink systems for the TS9170 and TS8170, photos also show minimal grain. Ink cartridges are available in standard and XL capacities, so for the TR8570 Office All-In-One printer, small businesses can enjoy lower costs during printing with the larger ink capacities.
Stay Always-Connected and Receive Status Alerts
With Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, also commonly known as Bluetooth 4.0, users can interact with their printers on a level that was never possible before. With BLE, it is now possible to stay always-connected to PIXMA printers via the Canon Print Inkjet/SELPHY appii. Users can enjoy easy wireless printer setup, and receive status alerts such as low-ink notifications or when there is no paper in the tray – simply by being within Bluetooth discoverable range of the printer.
Load Paper in Different Directions
The ability to load paper to be printed in two directions (rear tray and cassette tray) allows users to switch easily between two different paper types, such as plain paper and glossy photo paper. Those that do need to print a large number of documents can even fill both trays with A4 plain paper for a combined paper capacity of up to 200 sheetsiii.
Automatic Two-Sided Printing
The automatic two-sided printingiv function saves consumers both time and money by automatically printing on both sides of paper without the need to reverse a previously printed stack. The PIXMA TR8570 also features a time-saving Automatic Document Feeder that can load up to 20-sheets of document originals for scanning or copying.
Document Removal Reminder
The frequently forgetful will find the Document Removal Reminder function incredibly helpful. When a document is left on the scanner glass after a scan or copy, a notification on the LCD panel together with an audio alert prompts the user to remove their original document left on the scanner platen.
Make Copies of ID Cards or Name Cards Easily
The ID Card Copying function allows double-sided ID cards to be scanned onto a single printout – while retaining the original card size.
Message in Print App Changes the Way We See Printed Photos Forever
Imagine a birthday greeting that pops out from a photo of a child blowing out birthday candles, or a photo postcard of a concert jumping to a video of the actual performance. The new Message in Print appi makes these all possible. The app allows the creation of personalised messages with animations, or links to web videos that can be embedded in any photo. All that is needed is to view the photo via the app to unlock the surprise!
