Malaysia’s leading integrated communications company, Maxis Berhad (“Maxis”), recently announced its sponsorship of Lotus Racing. The Formula One™ regularly attracts more than 400 to 600 million television fans around the world, making it the third largest viewed global sports event after the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games.

Sandip Das, Maxis Chief Executive Officer said, “Maxis is pleased to broaden its sports involvement through the sponsorship of Lotus Racing in Formula One™. This is the pride of the nation and as the leading and most innovative Malaysian Telco, which is also globally respected, we wanted to be a part of this wonderful Malaysia moment.”

Jean-Pascal Van Overbeke, Maxis Chief Operating Officer added, “Formula One™ racing depends on reaching consistent and surpassing speeds, from a combination of latest engineering, human teamwork, individual talent, and the winning spirit. This has created an F1™ local and global culture which shows only further signs of growth. For Maxis, being the official sponsor of Lotus Racing is about doing more together, in order to go further, with a better finish each and every time. We are pleased to add that since 2009, Maxis has been the official provider to the Sepang International Circuit, of a speed, reliability, large bandwidth and real-time connectivity which enables smooth communication between members of race teams.”

Dato’ Seri Tony Fernandes, Lotus Racing Team Principal said ”I am absolutely delighted to welcome Maxis into the Lotus Racing family. It’s an honour to see our home country’s leading telco featured on our cars and as an integral part of our team, and we are very excited about the opportunities this partnership provides. Lotus Racing fans in Malaysia and around the world will now have even more access to our team through the fantastic range of mobile and internet platforms we’re already working on, and as an avid user of my own phone, I can’t wait to start using everything we create together.”

Together with its partners, Maxis is committing to share this weekend’s Grand Prix experience with Malaysians here and around the world, as well as with all F1™ fans. Journalists will be filing their stories using Maxis’ customised fixed lines for this event, bringing sound and image and instant reportage across distances.

Maxis customers will have immediate access to the latest Lotus Racing news and information and of course the team’s performance, on their mobile devices and computers. They will experience this anytime, anywhere, through SMS/MMS alerts, broadband, and at Maxis’ dedicated Malaysian GP Wap Portal.

For the up-close experience, Maxis is giving away hundreds of tickets over radio, providing opportunities to catch all the tremors and triumphs from the grandstand.

For the enriched, on-the-go, fast and furious experience of this weekend’s race, Maxis has also developed customised Malaysian Grand Prix mobile content including racing themes, games, and True Tunes – and to keep F1™ Fever warm beyond the weekend, Maxis customers will be able to download the Maxis Lotus Racing App to their iPhones.
