Maxis launches iPhone 3GS in Malaysia today

iPhone 3GS 16GB at RM1290, Enhanced iValue packages, Easy Payment Scheme & Attractive upgrade offers  


KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – 31 July 2009: The much awaited iPhone 3GS is now available in Malaysia from Maxis Communications Berhad (‘Maxis’). With today’s official nationwide launch, Maxis customers can look forward to attractive price plans, enhanced iValue packages and attractive upgrade offers. Maxis will offer iPhone 3GS 16GB for just RM1290 and iPhone 3G 8GB at just RM790, with the iValue 2 Plan that comes with a monthly commitment of RM155 and a 24 month contract. With the Maxis Easy Payment Scheme, an iPhone 3G 8GB can now be purchased for as little as RM60 per month.

iPhone 3GS is the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet, packed with incredible new features including improved speed and performance—up to twice as fast as iPhone 3G—with longer battery life, a high-quality 3 megapixel autofocus camera, easy to use video recording and hands free voice control. iPhone 3GS includes the new iPhone OS 3.0, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system with over 100 new features such as Cut, Copy and Paste, MMS, Spotlight Search, landscape keyboard and more. iPhone 3GS customers get access to more than 50,000 applications from Apple’s revolutionary App Store, the largest application store in the world.

At the official launch of iPhone 3GS in Kuala Lumpur today, Tan Lay Han, Maxis Vice President and Head of Consumer Marketing, said,

Enhanced iValue Plans
In adding more value to the iPhone 3GS proposition, Maxis iPhone 3GS prices are comparable to other smartphones in the market, while giving the customer a much enhanced user experience. Current music smartphones in the market are in the range of RM1400, while email phones are priced within the range of RM1600. The iPhone 3GS 16GB from Maxis, in combination with an iValue service plan, is priced at an affordable RM1290, and the customer enjoys the complete voice and data package. Maxis has carefully considered the needs of its iPhone 3G customers in coming up with these value packages.

In addition, Maxis is happy to introduce new features in the iValue plan which offer new and existing customers free SMS and MMS; and free local calls and SMS to family lines.

Maxis Easy Payment Scheme 
Maxis is making it more affordable for customers to own an iPhone 3GS with the Maxis easy payment scheme. Customers can purchase iPhone 3GS interest-free over 12 month or 24 month periods. With the 24 month easy payment scheme the customer can own an iPhone 3G 8GB from as low as RM60 per month, an iPhone 3GS 16GB from as low as RM80 per month, and an iPhone 3GS 32GB from as low as RM100 per month. This offer is open to all Maybank, HSBC, Citibank and Public Bank Visa and Mastercard customers and may be enjoyed at Maxis centres nationwide. Maxis Exclusive Partners (MEPS) and dealers are able to also process applications for Maybank Visa and Mastercard customers.    

Special upgrade offers for existing Maxis iPhone 3G customers

Maxis customers who have bought iPhone 3G are in for good news. iValue and iData subscribers who intend to upgrade to iPhone 3GS can enjoy at least a RM500 rebate (terms and conditions apply).   

Enhanced distribution points 
Tan added, “Maxis customers today do not need to go very far to get their hands on the revolutionary iPhone 3GS. With expanded iPhone 3GS distribution points, they may just walk into any of our 201 Maxis and Hotlink dealers; and Apple Premium Resellers to place their order for one. Meanwhile, iPhone 3GS will continue to be available at 28 Maxis centres nationwide from today onwards.”  


iPhone 3GS Roadshow 
In conjunction with the official launch of iPhone 3GS from Maxis, there will be an iPhone 3GS roadshow at the concourse area of Mid Valley the Gardens from 30 July to 9 August. Visitors to the roadshow can touch and feel the new phone and ask for a demonstration. There will also be fun activities highlighting iPhone 3GS features including iBand music activities, an MTV Booth showcasing video features of iPhone 3GS and iPhone games. Participants stand to win cash prizes and premiums from Maxis.
