Strengthening Partnership To Continue Commitment In The Areas Of Art And Culture

Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday, 10 July 2012 –Central Market Kuala Lumpur, the centre for Malaysian culture, heritage, arts and craft is committed to the development and preservation of art in Malaysia. This is apparent through its supports and efforts by offering opportunities to many parties to promote Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage through performances and cultural events.

To continue this commitment, Central Market Kuala Lumpur today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). The MOU signing ceremony held at The Annexe Gallery, Central Market Kuala Lumpur signifies an unprecedented agreement between Central Market Kuala Lumpur and UiTM to facilitate an ongoing partnership to highlight Malaysia and impress home-grown values amongst the future generation.

Through the agreement, Central Market Kuala Lumpur collaborates to provide the platform for the students from the Faculty of Music of UiTM to showcase Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and promote its unique diversity through music. This will be in a regular showcase of music performance, titled “Music For Life” and held every Friday evening, 8.30pm at Kasturi Walk, Central Market Kuala Lumpur.

The Vice Chancellor of UiTM, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Prof Ir Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar also mentioned in his speech that “This collaboration is a testament to both institutions’ commitment to the development, preservation and promotion of the rich musical arts, culture and heritage of Malaysia”.

Besides that, Dato’ Prof Ir Dr Sahol added “The Memorandum of Understanding between Central Market and Faculty of Music UiTM represents an excellent example of academia-industry collaboration serving to promote both establishments in the highest lights”.

Meanwhile, Cheong Wai Mun, Complex Manager of Central Market Kuala Lumpur said, “We are indeed delighted to create a platform for the students from the Faculty of Music of UiTM to showcase their skills and talent. We believe this opportunity will help them to continue to promote the rich Malaysian culture and diversity to Malaysians, visitors and especially the younger generation.”

Speaking at the MOU signing ceremony, Azhari Mohd Shariff, Director – Construction Management Central Market Kuala Lumpur said, “To ensure that our country’s cultural heritage remains alive and relevant, it is vital to inculcate our rich art background to the younger generation.”

Kick-started in January, the “Music For Life” is an on-going event at Kasturi Walk and features an array of exciting programmes combining arts and music through classical and contemporary music renditions including the bamboo ensemble, ukulele, Borneo music compositions, the saxophone, percussions and strings ensembles, as well as a melodious touch of the authentic Keroncong – a type of folk music originally developed in Java, Indonesia.

This special musical performance is free and open for the public to attend, every Friday, 8.30pm at Kasturi Walk.
