Thai Airasia X Obtains Air Operator’s Certificate

SEPANG, 4 February 2014- AirAsia X Berhad, the leading low-cost, long-haul carrier, today announced that its associate company, Thai AirAsia X Co Ltd (“TAAX”) had officially received the approval from the Department of Civil Aviation of Thailand for the Air Operator’s Certificate (“AOC”) on 3 February 2014.

The Air Operator’s Certificate received will allow Thai AirAsia X to proceed with its application for operating permits and slots to its intended international routes. The commencement date of commercial operations and the official launch of its hub in Bangkok will be announced once the operating permits and slots are obtained.

Thai AirAsia X will lease two Airbus A330-300s with 377 seats from a subsidiary of the Company in its first year of operations and will commence services from Don Mueng International Airport, Bangkok.

Concurrently, AirAsia X wishes to officially announce the appointment of Mr. Nadda Buranasiri as the new Chief Executive Officer of Thai AirAsia X. Mr. Nadda brings with him more than 20 years of international general management experience across global multinational organisations. 

AirAsia X CEO, Azran Osman-Rani said, “The announcement of Mr. Nadda Buranasiri as CEO of Thai AirAsia X has come at an opportune time as we finally received the approvals for the Air Operator’s Certificate. We welcome him on board the AirAsia family and believe his presence would further add a fresh new perspective to the industry. We look forward to his invaluable contribution to our first long-haul, low cost carrier in Bangkok, Thailand.”

“Thai AirAsia X is expected to offer connecting fly-thru services with Thai AirAsia’s short haul domestic and regional network, offering greater connectivity options from hubs in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. The establishment ofour Thai hub will see the beginning of AirAsia X’s strategic multi hub plan turn into reality,” Azran concluded.

AirAsia X was the first long-haul, low fare carrier to introduce Premium Flatbed seats, which have standard business class specifications of 20” width, 60” pitch and stretch out to 77” in full recline position.

The Premium flatbeds feature universal power sockets, adjustable headrests and built-in personal utilities such as tray table, drink holder, reading light and privacy screen. Premium seat guests also enjoy premium complimentary products and services including Pick A Seat, Priority Check-in, Priority Boarding, Priority Baggage, 25kg Baggage Allowance, Complimentary Meal and Pillow & Duvet.

AirAsia X was awarded the World’s Best Low Cost Airline Premium Seat and the World’s Best Low Cost Airline Premium Class titles at the 2013 Skytrax World Airline Awards which took place at the Paris Airshow. The AirAsia Group also received its 5th consecutive year title as the World’s Best and Asia’s Best Low Cost Airline at the 2013 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
