Shila Amzah To Voice Princess Jasmine For The Bahasa Malaysia Dubbed Disney’s Live Action Aladdin

The Walt Disney Company today announced a special collaboration with Malaysian songbird, Shila Amzah, to dub the upcoming Disney’s Live Action Aladdin into Bahasa Malaysia.

Disney’s Live Action Aladdin will be the first foreign live action film to be released widely in the cinemas in Bahasa Malaysia alongside the English version. Both versions will be available in cinemas from 23 May.

Aside from voicing Princess Jasmine, Shila will also be singing all the music in the film including a new song, Speechless (Raungan Suara). This new song will also be available as a single in Bahasa Malaysia and will be released on Spotify and other music platforms on 24 May.

There will also be a special single release of A Whole New World, which will see Shila team up with the winner of this year’s Anugerah Juara Lagu, Hael Hussaini, to bring this classic tune to live in Bahasa Malaysia. The Bahasa Malaysia version of A Whole New World (Dunia Baru) will be available on Spotify as well as other music platforms from 24 May onwards.

Aladdin is a well-loved classic that is well-known by Malaysians. It is a movie that children aged 3 to 80 can thoroughly enjoy. With the impending Hari Raya celebrations and mid-year school break, families can spend time catching this well-loved tale with their children, parents and grandparents alike – a multigenerational movie outing affair.

“Aladdin” is produced by Dan Lin, p.g.a., (“Sherlock Holmes”) and Jonathan Eirich, p.g.a., (“Death Note“) with Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe® winner Marc Platt (“La La Land”) and Kevin De La Noy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) serving as executive producers. Eight-time Academy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid”) provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Oscar-winning lyricists Howard Ashman (“Little Shop of Horrors”) and Tim Rice (“The Lion King”) and includes two new songs written by Menken and Oscar and Tony Award®-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“La La Land,” “Dear Evan Hansen”). The  film, which was shot on practical stages in London and on location amidst the stunning desert vistas of Jordan, has a talented creative team helping to bring Agrabah to life, including: director of photography Alan Stewart (“The Commuter”), production designer Gemma Jackson (“Game of Thrones”) and costume designer Michael Wilkinson (“American Hustle”).

The 1992 animated film starred Robin Williams and featured such memorable songs as the Oscar®-winning “A Whole New World” and “Friend like Me.” The film grossed more than $502 million at the global box office, which led to successful stage productions on Broadway and abroad as well as a North American touring company.
