Community Galvanised Through Football and Food

In its continued commitment to nurture Malaysian youths through sports, Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn. [dropcap]T[/dropcap]he ‘Samsung-Chelsea FC Youth Football Camp’ remains an important element in Samsung’s community outreach initiative. This collaboration with the coaches of English Premier League powerhouse and three times title winners, Chelsea FC created an avenue for Samsung to empower not only youths but adults alike to adopt a healthy lifestyle through food and eating habits through a cooking demonstration hosted by celebrity chef Anis Nabilah.

At the youth football camp, Samsung undertook a holistic role by also advocating the importance of caring for the environment through the showcase of the Samsung Eco Bubble washing machine, which employs Samsung’s proprietary technology to save up to 70% in electricity consumption.

Echoing this sentiment, Kwon Jae Hoon, Managing Director of Samsung Electronics Malaysia said, “The combination of sports and a balanced diet results in a healthy physical and emotional well-being. By providing them with an unpolluted environment, our youths can play sports outdoors, and consume fresh ingredients that are harnessed organically. Because sport is our passion point, we endeavour to continue our support for sporting initiatives among youths through galvanising collaborations with associations such as Chelsea Football Club.

“At Samsung, we believe in supporting this cause, and as such, incorporated a unique cooking demonstration into our Youth Football Camp today to showcase how easy it is to prepare healthy food. We hope to empower our young generations and their parents to adopt a healthy lifestyle through sports and nutritious food, but never to forget the importance of caring for our Mother Earth,” Kwon elaborated.

Steven Allan Winnet, a Chelsea youth coach said, “We are so excited to be back for the third time! Malaysian youths have a keen interest in football, and they show it through their determination and hard work on the field. This is the driving factor behind our continued partnership with Samsung, so that we can continue to nurture the youths through sports, and inspire them to adopt a healthy living.”

This time around, four Chelsea youth coaches – Steven Allan Winnet, Jack Colin West, Steven Leonard Shipp and David Michael Stewart – were in town to train a total of 180 participants from 9 to 13 years old. The participants included youths from Rumah Sayangan, Little League Malaysia, and Kuala Lumpur Youth Soccer. Despite their diversified background, they shared a common passion for football.

“Many people have overlooked the importance of keeping a balanced diet, but little do they know that healthy food nourishes an active body. It is only then that we could do our best in sports and other aspects of our lives,” elaborated celebrity chef Anis Nabilah, who showcased two of her delicious yet healthy recipes.

The ‘Samsung-Chelsea FC Youth Football Camp’ is part of Samsung’s support for developing football at grass-roots level, and is an important component of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. Samsung started its youth soccer programmes in 2007 since then more than 1,650 children from all around the world have experienced Chelsea Football Club’s way of soccer playing.
