Voice Independent Music Awards VIMA AWARDS Nominees

VIMA AWARDS Nominees (FINAL)

In what was deemed as the list to define the “true” and “just” definition of the Malaysian Music industry, the VIMAs (Voice Independent Music Awards) final nominee list was unveiled last night.

The announcement was made by the visibly exhausted founder, Siva Chandran, who said, “After more than 300 songs, 50 hours of judging, debating, lobbying and tabulating of the scores,we are satisfied with the final VIMAs nominee list which we truly believe represents the music industry as a whole. The Voize team left no stone unturned as we combed through amateur indie acts, bedroom producers, college acts and of course, the who’s who of the indie music scene. It’s a one-of-a-kind nominee list because you have indie acts from Rock, Pop, R&B and Reggae to Electronica, dance and hip-hop. Our toughest challenge was judging the rock category, as there were just too many songs vying for so few rock categories. Perhaps next year we may be able to break the genre down further. It’s been a grueling 3 days for the team, but it’s been worth it. The whole of Asia is looking to us to benchmark Indie music, and the VIMAs is Asia’s first indie music awards, so we’re elated to have pulled off a massive milestone. For now…I need some well deserved sleep.”

Indie act Estrella led the way with a massive 7 nominations, followed by hip-hop artiste Altimet who tied with Melissa Indot, both earning 6 nominations.

“The awards will be handed out on January 17th at Titanium Club, and we expect a crowd of almost 400 people comprising of celebrities and readers of Voize.my. The event is by invite only and we will be conducting a contest for readers to win exclusive passes for the VIMAs via our facebook site and voize.my.” said Premo, Marketing Executive of Voize.my (www.voize.my), an Asian and lifestyle entertainment portal, is the organizer of VIMAs and also another upcoming indie award, the AVIMA2009 (Asia’s First Indie Music Awards), comprising of 12 countries and will be held at the same venue on March 21st, 2009.

Another hip-hop act, Malique and rock acts Estranged and One Buck Short nabbed 5 nominations each.
