U Mobile celebrates with local young talents at the momentous end of Pop Star 2011
Kuala Lumpur, 14 November 2011 – Jerome Ding’s heart skipped a beat and felt like the Earth just stopped spinning for 5 seconds when he was named the overall champion of Pop Star 2011. Trying hard to contain the excitement, Ding stepped forward to receive cash prize and products worth RM50,000.
The 21-year old lad from Lahad Datu, Sabah out-sang 11 other finalists to clinch the coveted title, charming both the panel of esteemed judges and the loud audience during the grand finale of Pop Star 2011, whichwas held at the Arena of Stars, Resort World Genting.
“I couldn’t believe my ears when the host announced my name. I am the winner of Pop Star 2011! My life will change forever and I just cannot wait for all my dreams to come true,” said the overjoyed Ding, who expressed that the great comments from the judges were ‘icing on the cake’ apart from winning. Ding, who is a broadcasting student of TAR College, plans to share his prize money his family and invest in his education.
As the title sponsor of Pop Star 2011, U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s most dynamic and innovative telco service provider also awarded the ‘Most Popular Pop Star’ award to Jesper Nimoi, who garnered the most votes on Pop Star 2011 Facebook page. Jesper, who hails from Sarawak brought home a brand new Samsung GALAXY Tab courtesy of U Mobile during the grand finale.

A powerful performance by Justin Ng from Penang made him 1st runner-up of the local singing competition, bagging home RM40,000 worth of cash and prizes. Rounding up the top three was Virus Ngu from Johor, who sang her way to RM30,000 worth of cash and prizes.
The eventful finale culminated the two-month long local singing competition, attracting more than 500 participants nationwide and after several elimination rounds; the top 12 singers from the group were selected to compete in the grand finale. One of the panel judges was Kay Huang, noted music producer and judge of Taiwan’s hit singing competition ‘One Million Star’.
