Augurs well with efforts to bring back tourists to Thailand, says Governor

HAT YAI (THAILAND), 17 December 2011 – Global value hotel brand Tune Hotels launched its maiden property in Thailand with the official opening of Tune Hotel Hat Yai by the Governor of Songkhla, Grisada Boonrach here Friday, 16 December 2012.

Tune Hotel Hat Yai, located at Niphat Uthit 2 Road has 148 rooms comprising 93 double rooms, 54 twin-sharing rooms and a wheelchair-friendly room. The hotel is situated right in the heart of Hat Yai and within the city’s main shopping and entertainment areas, while the railway station is just five minutes’ walk away.

Governor Grisada was joined at the opening ceremony by Mayor of Hat Yai Municipality Dr Prai Pattano, President of Hotels Association in Hat Yai Somchart Pimthanapoonporn, Hat Yai District Chief Seri Panitkul and CEO of Red Planet Hotels Tim Hansing. Red Planet is Tune Hotels’ strategic partner for the development of its hotels in Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia.

Governor Grisada said: “This is such a momentous occasion not only for Songkhla Province but also Thailand as a whole as we welcome the arrival of the first Tune Hotel right here in Hat Yai. The establishment of Tune Hotel Hat Yai will further promote the tourism sector in the Songkhla province as well as the rest of southern Thailand. Tune Hotel will give tourists and visitors to Hat Yai a world class accommodation option at affordable rates. It augurs well with the government’s efforts to bring back tourists to our country. On the national level, it serves to promote stronger ties between old friends Thailand and Malaysia.”

Tim Hansing said: “We are pleased to be working with Tune Hotels in Thailand and other Asean countries. The opening of Tune Hotel Hat Yai is only the beginning. Through our collaboration with Tune Hotels, we have about 15 properties scheduled for opening next year, spread over Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia. We are particularly pleased to have managed to complete the property in spite of the severe flooding problems in Thailand.”

Apart from Hat Yai, Tune Hotels rollout plan in Thailand for 2012 would include Pattaya, followed by Asoke in Bangkok and Patong in Phuket later in the year.

With the latest opening of Hat Yai, Tune Hotels now operates 14 hotels globally – ten in Malaysia; two in Bali, Indonesia; one in London, England; and one in Thailand. Adding to the list soon will be Tune Hotels’ second London hotel that is set to open at Liverpool Street on 4 Jan 2012, followed by Pattaya, Thailand (17 Feb 2012) and three locations in the Philippines – Angeles City (10 Feb 2012), Cebu City (24 Feb 2012) and Ermita, Manila (9 March 2012).
