The grand finale of Pop Star 2012 Singing Contest will be held on 21st December at Dewan Wawasan Convention & Exhibition Centre, Menara PGRM. The event will feature local judges Candy Cheah, Chong Keat Siong, Vic Teo and also Kay Hwang from Taiwan, who will be judging the final eight finalists during the grand finale stages.The competition, which is conducted in Mandarin, is organised by New Pro-Star and co-organized by Jia Yu TV (ASTRO 304), along with the presenter U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s most dynamic and innovative telco. After a nationwide audition and rounds of intensive competition, eight finalists have been selected for the opportunity to be crowned the winner and a step closer to stardom. They are PS01 -Wendy Woo (Perak), PS02 – You Sok Cheng (Pahang), PS03 – Jeff Yip (Penang), PS04 – Dephie Yap (Pahang), PS05 – Tan Yi Fen (KL), PS06 – Valerie Lau (Johor), PS07 – Cyrus Yap (KL) and PS08 – Ryan Ooi (Penang).
The final eight have gone through photo-shoots and a lot of training courses such as make-up, singing, and dancing. They will also kick-start their ‘Pop Star Home Coming Tour’ from 24 November onwards. Besides performances, they will be giving out tickets to the grand finale and have game sessions with the audiences.
With cash and gift prizes worth more than RM200,000, the Pop Star 2012 Grand Finale will see the top eight finalists compete in three rounds of competition to determine the top three winners: “The Challenge of Show/Fast Songs”, “Breaking My Boundaries” and “My Theme Song”.
Apart from their performances, the finalists’ popularity will also be judged based on the number of votes accumulated. The SMS votes will determine the result of Top-8 during the first round of the competition.
The Top 3 winners will have the chance to represent Malaysia at the “The Million Star” talent competition, which will be held in Taiwan in 2013. Besides that, there are three subsidiary awards which the final eight can win, such as the “U Mobile SMS Pop Star”, “Sharp AQUOS Online Voting” & “Station One “Yes” Top Vote”. The result of the “U Mobile SMS Top-Vote Pop Star” will be counted as part of the result of the finale eight during the first round of their competition in grand finale.

In addition, U Mobile is giving a special award, called “U Mobile SMS Top-Vote Pop Star” where fans can cast their votes to their favourite finalist by sending an SMS. Each SMS would account for 3 points. The finalists with the highest number of SMS votes will be declared the U Mobile SMS Top-Vote Pop Star and receive a brand new HTC smartphone.
