Plenty of Romance & Thriller On April’s Panggung Sabtu

Over the years, Bollywood movies have gone through major transformation and a number of changes and improvements; but somehow the directors have retained to having all elements in a movie: (slapstick) comedy, romance, action, melodrama, song & dance and most important of them all: a happy ending. This April, TV3’s Panggung Sabtu offers all these and so much more with a great selection of movies like “Hera Pheri”, “Aankhen”, “Chor Machaaye Shor” and “Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya”.

A botched kidnapping scheme, the almost perfect bank robbery, a busted diamond heist and a modern love affair are this month’s servings on Panggung Sabtu.  Fans and viewers will be thrilled to catch commendable performances from everyone’s favourite Bollywood leading men such as Amitabh Bachchan, Sunil Shetty, Arjun Rampal and Salman Khan.

Need we say more? Fans of Bollywood heroes and heroines, be sure to mark your calendar and tune in to TV3 as your Saturday afternoons will never be dull again.

Hera Pheri – April 4, 2009
Shyam (Sunil Shetty), an unemployed youth and Raju (Akshay Kumar), a laundry worker are boarders at the home of mechanic Baburao (Paresh Rawal). Each dreams of making it big, and one evening, a cross-connection on their phone lets them in on a kidnapping scheme that they figure can lead them to the big bucks. The film has one of the most hilarious sequences in Hindi cinema, when bank manager Asrani tries to hook up Shyam with Anuradha (Tabu), to the amusement of a by-stander (Snehal Dabi) who mistakes Asrani for a pimp. Great cameo by Om Puri as a beleaguered Punjabi truck driver.

Aankhen – April 11, 2009
Vijay Singh Rajput (Amitabh Bachchan) lives a wealthy lifestyle and has been working with a bank for the last 30 years. He is a trusted employee and is looked upon favorably by the bank’s management. Vijay’s Achilles heel is his temper, which does get him reprimanded albeit with a mere rap on his knuckles, but when he assaults a bank customer, he is fired. Angered he decides to get his vengeance by robbing the bank as no one knows the internal security as well as he does. Vijay, a perfectionist, decides to pull this heist off without arousing any suspicion upon himself, and sets off by abducting a child of an Instructress, Neha, for the school of the blind, and coercing her to cooperate with him and train three other blind males he has recruited to carry out this job, namely Ilias (Paresh Rawal), Arjun Verma (Arjun Rampal), and Vishwas Prajapati (Akshay Kumar). Watch what happens after they successfully rob the bank and try to go about their individual lives.

Chor Machaaye Shor – April 18, 2009
Fortunately, before his arrest Shyam manages to hide the diamonds at a nearby construction site, intending to return for it as soon as he gets out of prison. Two years pass and Shyam’s release date arrives. Returning to his ill-gotten gains, he is horrified to discover that what was once a building site is now a new police headquarters with his stolen diamonds forming part of the foundation. Shyam decides to create and play the role of Inspector Ram and soon becomes the favourite of ACP Ranbir Singh (Paresh Rawal) at the police station. But life is not that easy going for the imposter who quickly comes to the attention of the ever suspicious Inspector Pande (Om Puri). Amidst all this mayhem Ram actually finds time to romance Inspector Ranjita (Bipasha Basu). But he also plays the character of Shyam with Ranbir’s daughter, Komal (Shilpa Shetty). Soon they become lovers. Whilst Ram/ Shyam is busy with his hectic love life, other criminals, Tito (Ashish Vidhyarthi) and Tony (Rajat Bedi) have caught wind of the news and are now in search of the diamonds.

Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya – April 25, 2009
Samir (Salman Khan) is a very successful doctor: He not only looks after his patient’s various maladies, but also looks after his female patients’ hearts. Most women fall for him and his irresistible charms. The only person who has not fallen for him is his dutiful nurse Naina (Sushmita Sen). Whenever a girl gets too close to Samir and starts talking about marriage, he sends her off by telling her he is already married. However, one day, he meets Sonia (Katrina Kaif), a beautiful young woman and Samir is smitten. When she learns of his ‘wife’, she wants to meet her — and Samir introduces Naina, as well as her niece and nephew, as his wife and children. Samir then arranges a fake divorce from a fake wife with the help of his best friend, lawyer Vicky (Arshad Warsi) who, despite having a steady girlfriend, frequently flirts with Naina. To complicate things further, Samir’s mother suddenly appears and doesn’t want her son get divorced from Naina (when he isn’t married to her in the first place). And then, there is Sonia’s neighbor Pyare, who does not want Sonia to marry Samir: he wants Sonia for his own and she seems to like him, too. The web of lies around everyone grows thicker and thicker, but finally, Samir is able to marry Sonia. Will this marriage takes place? Or will Sonia learns the truth about Samir and cancels the wedding?
