An original English-language fictional political thriller-drama series, Precinct 1, will be produced and shot in Malaysia later this year for distribution to global commercial television networks.
Created by Datuk Vinod Sekhar, the 10-episode first season is being advised by Oscar winner Bruce Davey, who has produced over 47 films globally, including Apocalypto, The Passion of Christ and Braveheart (for which he won an Academy Award). The two-hour pilot, written by U-En Ng, will be directed by leading filmmaker and theatre director Joe Hasham OAM.
Precinct 1 would be shot entirely on location in Malaysia and would feature local and international talent in a range of acting and production roles. Although entirely a work of fiction, Precinct 1 will leverage on the country’s rich multicultural traditions and unique socio-political environment. The series is being produced for the international market, and is expected to be a first of its kind
Vinod Sekhar, who created the show and storyline, added that talks with regional cable channels were in progress and that the response so far had been enthusiastic.
“We are incredibly lucky and grateful to have the advice and guiding hand of Bruce Davey with us for the project”, he added.
Director Hasham added that “Finally the Malaysian television/film industry can show the rest of the world what it can really do given the opportunity. We anticipate a wonderful line-up of acting talent from here and abroad. U-En has written a brilliant and exciting pilot for the series. Its the first time this has been done, and it took someone like Vinod Sekhar, with the vision to look beyond what people said was possible, to create a project like this. I am very excited ”
Veteran actor Patrick Teoh (The Blue Mansion, Sumolah, Monday Morning Glory) and writer Christina Orow (Misteri Jalan Lama, Los dan Faun, Sumolah) have confirmed their participation.
The production is currently looking to cast talented Malaysian men and women, aged 20-60, in lead, supporting and background roles. The pilot will shoot in August-September this year.
Open auditions will be held daily from 2pm to 6pm, Mar 10 to Mar 14, at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur.
