Pavilion KL Unveils One-Of-A-Kind 3D Kolam

Pavilion KL unveils one-of-a-kind 3D kolam to celebrate Deepavali

Pavilion KL, Malaysia’s premier lifestyle destination, marked the start of its Deepavali celebration by unveiling a series of multicoloured kolams that filled the award-winning mall with harmonious and joyous vibes, including a one-of-a-kind 3D kolam created by design students from The One Academy.

Themed “Art of Deepavali”, the kolams are inspired by the aesthetic symbol behind the Festival of Lights. One of the must-visit kolams is the one-of-its-kind 3D kolam named ‘Unconventional Greetings’ measuring 20 feet in diameter, created by The One Academy.

‘Unconventional Greetings’ is a perfect marriage between traditions and innovations by keeping the traditional way of making the kolam with colourful rice, yet presenting it in a modern art form of 3D design.

The name ‘Unconventional Greetings’ is derived from the mélange of traditional Indian values. This reminds individuals that obstacles can be overcome with support of loved ones. The oil lamp is surrounded by a dignified peacock, symbolizing the triumphant meaning of good versus evil. The water and flowers depict the importance of nature, signifying the balance of mind, body and soul.

The making of ‘Unconventional Greetings’ was undertaken by 30 students of The One Academy over the course of 3 days prior to the launch using almost 100kg of rice in 9 different hues and other embellishments to bring this kolam alive. The design incorporated the true essence of the Festival of Lights with oil lamps, dignifying peacocks, water and flowers coming together to symbolise the life and the balance of our body, soul and mind.

According to Joyce Yap, CEO – Retail of Pavilion KL, “We are truly excited to be partnering with the students of Asia’s top institution in art, design and creative multimedia, The One Academy, whose passion, skills and love for arts will truly present their best artwork to give our shoppers the ultimate shopping experience. By creating the Kolams in 3D, we hope to open up the eyes of the public that life can viewed from many angles and also learning through exploration.”

She added, “Pavilion KL aims to constantly further promote tourism and to celebrate culture and arts in Malaysia. Located in the heart of Bukit Bintang, Pavilion KL receives a high number of tourists daily in turn allows us to be an educational hub for tourists to learn about the multicultural Malaysia in festivities, in this case, Deepavali.
