(New York, NY – June 14, 2012) – Columbia Records and The Creators Project have announced that Passion Pit and director David Wilson of Colonel Blimp have collaborated on the music video for the band’s triumphant first single, “Take A Walk.” The video, which will debut on TheCreatorsProject.com a digital platform dedicated to arts and technology by VICE and Intel, was shot in Philadelphia, PA last month using first-of-its-kind helicam technology developed by SnapRoll Media.

Inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s animated short “Jumping,” David Wilson expressed his interest in capturing a live version of the film’s bouncing animation with a helicam. Passion Pit’s “Take A Walk” was a natural fit, as Wilson immediately connected with the rhythm of the music. As Wilson explains, “it was the desire to echo the seamless rhythm in the song with the camera bounce that drew me to this bespoke helicam capable of creating such a smooth bounce.” With the support of The Creators Project, a global initiative dedicated to supporting artists in realizing their creative visions through technology, David Wilson and Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit tackled the challenge of conceptualizing a narrative based on the song’s lyrics and the capability of the helicam’s tailored movements.

“Essentially, we were able to achieve moves with the camera that I haven’t seen before; the bounce is something that really differentiates this from any helicam video I’ve seen before,” explains Wilson. “Making that a reality was a challenge; there’s a reason a camera hasn’t been bounced via mini helicopter before.” Their efforts paid off, as the bouncing nature of the video replicates both the booming rhythm of “Take A Walk” and Angelakos’ attempts to rise above the troubles weighing him down.

The content of the video was shaped over conversations between Wilson and Angelakos about the extremely personal nature of “Take A Walk,” in which Angelakos struggles with the modern-day issue of maintaining a sense of self and family amongst the trappings of materialism. In the lyrics, Angelakos weaves the personal stories of various family members into a more universal tale, exploring both the agony and ecstasy of self-realization. In spite of these struggles, Passion Pit’s upcoming release Gossamer (out July 24th on Columbia) is ultimately a search for hope. The album represents a natural, yet stunning, progression from the band’s earlier work.

A making-of video for “Take A Walk” will also premiere on TheCreatorsProject.com, check back in next week for more…
