The moment of suspense, eagerness and nerve-wrecking silence shifted to an atmosphere filled with cheers and applause when the names of the top eight finalists of Pop Star 2012 were announced during the semi-final round of singing competition, held at Berjaya Times Square recently.

Surprised and overjoyed with the results, the eight finalists tried their hardest to contain their excitement as they moved one step closer to realising their dreams of being the next singing sensation in both the local and possibly international entertainment industries.

The finalists, Valery Lau Wee Hua (23), Ooi Kah Beng (22), Jeff Yip Jing Qun (18), Yap Kuok Shen (22), Yap Wan Yee (21), You Sok Cheng (26), Woo Wei Yee (19) and Tan Yi Fen (22), all charmed the esteemed panel of judges for their deserving spot in the Grand Final of Pop Star 2012, where the winners will be given the opportunity to represent Malaysia at the prestigious “The Million Star” talent competition held in Taiwan in 2013.

As the presenter of Pop Star for the second consecutive year, U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s most innovative and dynamic telco, celebrated with the top eight finalists over a scrumptious meal and presented them each with free U Mobile Prepaid Unlimited Mobile Internet for two months and goodie bags. The sponsorship of Pop Star 2012 is part of U Mobile’s commitment to nurturing young talent and to encourage them pursue their dreams and aspirations.

The Pop Star 2012 grand finale will be held on 21st December 2012 at Dewan Wawasan, Menara PGRM, Kuala Lumpur.

Kay Hwang, notable music producer and judge of ‘The Million Stars’ is once again the judge for the competition alongside local judges Candy Cheah, Chong Keat Siong and Vic Teo of Malaysian Idol fame.

Pop Star 2012 is open to Malaysian citizens and foreigners aged between 16 to 35 years old who have a passion for singing but are yet to cut an album. Auditions for the competition were held in five different locations: Penang, Johor, Kuantan, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah and more than 100 contestants were selected from the audition rounds to compete for a spot in the quarter final, semi-final and eventually the grand finale of the competition.
