Marie Claire Wake Up To A Good Cause

Marie Claire Malaysia turns 21 this year and we’re kicking things off by waking up to a good cause! Malaysia’s first international title for women of style and substance is supporting Women’s Aid Organization (WAO), one of the country’s most established NGOs dedicated to helping abused women, by launching a social media campaign entitled ‘Marie Claire Wake Up To A Good Cause’ which aims to create awareness on violence against women while raising funds for WAO.

It is shocking to note that one in every three women in the world has suffered from some form of abuse. WAO has estimated that 39% of Malaysian women have either been physically, mentally or emotionally abused.

WAKE UP TO A GOOD CAUSE

The campaign encourages the public to post an out-of-bed bare-faced ‘selfie’ of themselves and subsequently upload it to Instagram with the correct hash tags and caption: Marie Claire will donate RM 10 to WAO for every upload. They are also encouraged to nominate five friends to do the same. Marie Claire will then donate RM10 for each uploaded photo up to a total of RM 21,000 to the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO).

“We hope to engage our readers and create awareness for violence against women through what we hope would be a social media phenomenon. The #mcwakeup2agoodcause campaign, in aid of the WAO, will give everyone a chance to help raise funds without leaving their beds!”. “We’re also thrilled that glo Laser Centres is our main sponsor for the campaign who shares the same belief in protecting human rights.” said Mindy Teh, Editor in Chief of Marie Claire.

The March issue of the Marie Claire will feature a spread of 23 celebrities who are passionate about raising awareness on violence again women and are lending their voice to the campaign. The campaign will start from 1st March 2015 to 30th April 2015 and readers are encouraged to upload as many photos as possible with the accurate hash tags.

Personalities such as legendary theatre doyen Fatimah Abu Bakar, actress Sarah Lian, politician Dyana Sofya, presenter Bernie Chan, and many more will be posting their own out- of-bed selfies on Instagram and Twitter and will nominate their followers to do the same.

You don’t have to be a celebrity to join in! Just tag your early-morning selfie with #mcwakeup2agoodcause & #marieclairemalaysia. For every tag, we will make a donation of RM10 to the cause. It’s bringing a whole new (charitable) meaning to #mcwakeup2agoodcause.

You can join us in this cause and help make a change happen. For more information log on to www.marieclaire.com.my.
