Malaysians Closer to the Top of K-pop!

Two chosen amongst thousands to become next tvN K-Pop Superstar!

With the K-pop scene fast gaining momentum, Malaysians finally had a chance to realize their dream of becoming a K-Pop star.

In the Malaysian leg of the contest for tvN K-Pop Star Hunt S2, powerhouses Nur Shazreen Binti Sharupidin and Khairul Najmuddin Bin Abu Samah emerged victorious from the thousands who submitted online videos of themselves singing and dancing. Both winners will soon head to Korea to compete against winning contestants from other countries.

The winner for this talent search will then receive an exclusive trainee contract from Korea’s biggest media group CJ E&M and CUBE Entertainment together with an official album release and a debut stage performance at Korea’s leading international music award show, the 2013 MAMA alongside K-pop artistes such as G.na and 4 minute.

The audition process was a nerve-wracking one. Over the span of two days, 150 contestants were selected from a pool of over thousands entries to perform in groups of three in front of the judges. The 150 were then narrowed down to Top 11, where each person gave a solo performance in front of hundreds at Fahrenheit88.

Shazreen clinched the win when she sang Baby Steps by Taetiseo, wowing the panel of judges which included the renowned CUBE Entertainment judge Mr. Park Jae-Hyun. Living up to his moniker, the “Midas Touch”, Park has casted some of the biggest acts in the K-pop industry such as TVXQ, Super Junior, the Wonder Girls, 2PM, 2AM, Miss A, 4MINUTE, BEAST, G.NA, A-Pink and BTOB. His unique vision and talent scouting ability have earned him respect and admiration from producers, casting directors and talent agencies alike.

Meanwhile, Khairul received thunderous applause from the judges and the crowd when he took on the popular Grenade by Bruno Mars and nailed it. Both stood out with their incredible vocals and slick dance moves.

“I was very nervous before my performance as others were very competitive, but as soon as I stepped on stage, I gave it my all. I want to thank tvN for giving me this golden opportunity,” said Shazreen after she was announced as one of the winners.

Khairul echoed Shazreen’s sentiments, when he said, “I was really anxious before I went on stage because I wanted this so much. Everyone is so incredibly talented, I wasn’t sure if I could win. Big thanks to everyone who encouraged me to participate and not forgetting tvN for presenting Malaysians this chance of a lifetime!”
