Majestic Dragon Festival Pavilion KL

Behold the Magnificent 600-ft Long Dragon at Pavilion KL’s ‘Majestic Dragon Festival’ this Chinese New Year

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the world’s premier lifestyle destination, launched its ‘Majestic Dragon Festival’, running from 6 January to 6 February in celebration of Chinese New Year today. Centre Court was transformed into the ‘Dragon Festival’, a first-of-its-kind themed bazaar with unique dragon arts and craft offerings, that media excitedly got to experience including rainbow calligraphy, dragon beard candy and a photo portrait dressed in traditional Chinese costume. Hanging above the Centre Court is a magnificent 600-foot long dragon, signifying power, wealth and luck, that sweeps down to welcome shoppers as they enter the mall.

Joyce Yap, CEO-Retail of Pavilion KL, launched the Chinese New Year campaign by symbolically awakening the dragon, unleashing its positive energy, while media and shoppers looked on in anticipation. Once the dragon was awakened, it joined another dragon to make a Double Dragon dance. The 2 dragons were joined by the 8 Lion Dance, intensifying the good luck and fortune. Guests were treated to a festive lou sang which tourist shoppers also enjoyed, thrilled as they were able to experience the local customs of Chinese New Year celebrations. The festive event ended with a remarkable Acrobatic Lion Dance at the Bukit Bintang Entrance where lions twirled, twisted and leapt from platform to platform, giving out mandarin oranges as symbols of ‘gold’ to onlookers. Raymond Khue of Kiew Brothers and Ruby Lee of Poh Kong also joined in the auspicious launch as campaign partners of the ‘Majestic Dragon Festival’.

“The Dragon is one of the most positive spirits of the Chinese zodiac, signifying power, wealth and luck. As such, our aim was to create a grand and awe-inspiring experience for this Chinese New Year. And what better way to illustrate this than with the majestic 600-ft long dragon gracefully hanging above us. We are delighted that our larger-than-life dragon has already received a lot of attention as a popular photo hot spot,” said Yap.

“People never need a reason to shop and especially in Malaysia, with our dynamic multiculturalism, we celebrate many festivities and holidays. As shoppers become savvier and see malls not just as a place to shop but a forum for experiences, our Chinese New Year celebrations are a representation of our commitment to give every shopper a personable and memorable experience,” Yap continued.

Tourists Peter and Penny Wolff, together with their teenage daughter Xanthe, from Australia who were at the launch said, “We just arrived in Malaysia yesterday and are very excited to take part in the launch. The big dragon as well as the Chinese New Year decorations at Pavilion KL are simply remarkable. We do not get this type of a feel and look to a mall in Australia. We are so happy to experience this Malaysian culture.”
